BSTF offer the same high quality martial arts instructor policy coverage, underwritten by Allianz Insurance plc, at all cost bands.

BSTF membership and Club Coach (also known as Club Instructor) insurance policies have a fixed 1-year renewal schedule, with all membership and insurance policy subscriptions being valid from 1st October (or later subscription) through to 30 September of the following year.

A valid Black Belt certificate and completion of the mandatory adult safeguarding training is required of all BSTF insured Club Coaches. Club Coaches who wish to coach <18s in community club settings must also complete mandatory child safeguarding training, and meet additional terms and conditions.

If you are a  Club Coach you must:

• (A) Purchase BSTF Club Coach insurance,
  Or,
• (B) Upload your 3rd party insurance certificate

(A) BSTF Club Coach Insurance pathway

To apply for BSTF Club Coach insurance you must provide the following:

• Your current Dan grade and the date you became an instructor
• A copy of your Dan grade certificate
• A copy of your supplementary sport education records, if applicable (requirements vary by insurance Band)

To apply for BSTF Club Coach insurance you must agree to our terms and conditions, and confirm the following are all true:

• You are a Coach working under contract (paid or voluntary) in an official capacity for/ on behalf of a University Club’s Club Manager [this may be a Higher Education Institution/ University/ Students’ Union/ an autonomous university student club management committee having independent management authority over your contract of appointment], and you have and will continue to meet any associated training and continuous professional development, insurance and other contractual requirements. Or, you are the Club Manager of a satellite/ community club which is not a University Club.
• Your coached sessions shall be delivered on a university campus, or other suitable sports facilities organised by the Club Manager and in accordance with a suitable risk assessment
• Appropriate safeguarding policies and reporting procedures are in place within the club, actively administered by the Club Manager
• You have the necessary training and knowledge to safely coach taekwondo
• The only martial arts discipline you will be coaching (also referred to as teaching/ instructing) will be taekwondo
• No weapons are used in your classes
• Your correspondence address is in the UK
• You do not sell, supply, deliver or use any goods for promotional purposes
• You have suffered no loss, nor made any claims or been involved in any accidents which could have resulted in a claim [whether accepted or declined by your last insurer] in the last 5 years
• You have no pre-existing medical conditions you are aware of
• You have no current or past sanctions, nor any current or pending safeguarding/ disciplinary investigations undertaken by any sports/ martial art/ education/ other organisation(s) against you
• You have never had membership refused by any other sports/ martial art/ education/ other organisation(s)
• You have not been convicted or charged (but not yet tried) with any non-motoring, criminal offence
• You have not been declared bankrupt or insolvent
• You have not had cover refused, cancelled or declined by a previous insurer
• You have never had special terms imposed on a previous policy
• You maintain all equipment properly and keep it in a good state of repair
• You agree to complete the required safeguarding training course and all other safeguarding training requirements as stipulated by BSTF (these may incur additional costs depending on your specific requirements)
• You agree to provide promptly on request all documentation/ evidence BSTF require for your application and to meet all ongoing safeguarding and insurance reporting requirements
• You agree to contact BSTF immediately if there are any changes in your circumstances relevant to any of the aforementioned clauses

(B) 3rd Party Insured Club Coach pathway

Club Coaches obtaining insured via independently sourced policies or via a third party provider must provide the following:

• The date your 3rd party insurance policy expires
• Upload a copy of your current and live 3rd party coaching insurance certificate (proof of suitable insurance)

• You agree to contact BSTF immediately if there are any changes in your circumstances relevant to any of the aforementioned clauses

More About Taekwondo Insurance

Club Coach membership holders must agree to the general and specific terms and conditions of: BSTF membership for Club Coaches; BSTF Club Coach insurance as applicable; the BSTF Code of Conduct; and any other specific requires listed for your membership type, and insurance type and requirement.

BSTF offer Club Coach Insurance with MartialGuard, providing our members Instructors Public and Products Liability Insurance underwritten by Allianz Insurance plc. This policy insures you against legal liability to pay costs & compensation for accidental injury, or loss or damage to property, or defence claim costs arising from your professional coaching to a limit of indemnity of £10,000,000.

BSTF insured Club Coaches must hold a recognised Black Belt taekwondo certificate and must complete our mandatory Ann Craft Trust Adult Safeguarding Course, which is provided free to BSTF insured coaches, and is valid for and must be renewed every 36 months. This course must be completed with 2 weeks of a successful application for BSTF Club Coach insurance. Club Coaches who plan to coach <18s in a community club setting must also complete mandatory child safeguarding training, and meet additional terms and conditions which may incur additional costs; contact us for further details.

BSTF Club Training Insurance provides all paid membership level members Personal Accident insurance (including General Club Member, Athlete Member and Club Coach Members), provided that the BSTF Club Training Insurance service has been activated by the club management committee via the Club Committee Portal. To utilise the BSTF Club Training Insurance service it is required that 100% of your actively training club members must, at all times, have registered/ renewed onto one of our paid membership types, or be a free Affiliate Member type holder attending no more than 3 trial lessons, after which they must upgrade to a paid General Club Member, Athlete Member or Club Coach Member membership.

General membership is available from £1.95 /yr for trainee umpires and £14.95 /yr for club members not competing in BSTF competitions (2025-26 fees), making our annual club insurance solutions much less costly than many other providers.
