Due to the exception circumstances of covid-19 this year’s rescheduled AGM will take place online from noon Sunday 22nd November 2020.
Each club’s captain/ president, please follow this link to register to attend by Friday 20th November.
All university clubs have an equal say in electing their charity trustees. Every university club in membership of their Students’ Union and the BSTF, regardless of style or affiliation, carries an equal vote at BSTF General Meetings. Voting is exercised by an elected committee members representing their club and conducted by simple majority.

The end of November will see a major university competition in the form of our new Online Patterns Championships. Competitors will have the chance to send entries recorded via a mobile app over 23rd – 28th November 2020.
- Stage 1 registration closes 22nd November 2020.
- Stage 2 registration closes 26th November 2020.
- Submissions via the mobile app over 23rd – 28th November 2020.
- The event is £0 (free) for all student-athlete pass holders
- There is a £10 entry fee for alumni, guest athletes and basic pass holders (includes entry into all 4 disciplines)
- ‘Live’ stream and results Sunday 6th December!

About
This online version of the S&C for Taekwondo course is aimed at both university clubs coaches and assistant coaches, student-athlete members with an interest in coaching and Taekwondo sport science.
This one day course is divided between two classroom modules delivered 3pm – 7.30pm 5th December 2020 (ca. 4+ hours teaching and break) and includes a live Q&A segment.
The course will take place via Zoom and an internet connection is required. A password will be shared once you have registered (see registration details below).
There will be a re-broadcast of the event on Wednesday 9th December for those who cannot attend live.
The course is delivered by Dr Carl Langan-Evans BA (Hons); MRes; PhD; FHEA; IIST; ASCC. Carl has been engaged as a coach, trainer and consultant physiologist to a number of high performance sports teams including those at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Carl was the Head of Sport Science Support Services/ Strength & Conditioning at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) from 2013-2020, worked with the English Institute of Sport (EIS) from 2013 to 2017 and holds professional accreditation in strength & conditioning via the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA). Carl completed his doctorate in applied sport physiology and nutrition with a thesis titled ‘The Psychological and Physiological Effects of Making Weight in International Level Taekwondo Athletes’. Carl now works as a post-doctoral research fellow at LJMU, which is funded by the sport nutrition company Science in Sport (SiS) and is specifically focused on examining the formulation and modulation of ergogenic nutritional aids for combat sport performance. Alongside his university role, Carl consults with a number of professional and Olympic combat sports athletes inclusive of those in the UFC, Bellator, Cage Warriors mixed martial arts promotions, boxing and taekwondo.
SESSION 1 – Sport Science Support/Nutrition & Weight Making for Taekwondo Module
- Introduction to Sport Science Disciplines (Physiology/Biomechanics/Psychology)
- Anti-doping
- Basic Sports Nutrition (Macro & Micro nutrients/hydration/supplements)
- Weight Making Practices (Dieting/dehydrative methods/recovery post weight in)
- Periodization (Macro/Meso/Micro cycles, tapering, order of training, recovery)
SESSION 2 – Strength & Conditioning for Taekwondo Module
- Introduction to S&C areas (strength/power/speed/conditioning)
- Testing Performance (strength/power/speed/conditioning)
- Structure of Training (Volume/intensity, sets, reps, tempo, rest)
- Warm-ups & Cool Downs (structure and flexibility potential)
- Conditioning modalities (An/Aerobic – general & specific)
S&C for Taekwondo (Online) Course Fee
- Guest delegates and Alumni/ Volunteer Basic Pass holders £50.00
- Head-coach Pass holders (max 1 per club) £30.00
- Student-athlete Pass holders £20.00

- Student-athletes, volunteers and coaches register for a membership pass on the BSTF website and record their BSTF ID code. Student-athletes must obtain a membership pass which matches their level of competition entry (A, B or C-class).
- Student-athletes each submit their competition application on BUCS Play, inputting their BSTF ID code* as indicated during registration.
- A team captain or institution administrator must submit their team’s head-coach, assistant coaches and volunteers (registering sufficient volunteers to meet your team quota**) by selecting the event via the BSTF entry portal and completing the coach & volunteer registrations (this is required whether or not the same coaches and volunteer have already registered as competitors via the BUCS Play system).
- Club captains and institution administrators may then review entries via the BUCS Play website; Institution administrator approves/denies entries.
- BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list.
*Your BSTF ID code can be found by logging in to manage your account (codes are generated ca. 24-72 hours after a new account is created and verified). Once your student-athletes, coaches and volunteers are registered your club captains and institution administrators may review a current list of their institution’s members, their pass types and BSTF ID codes via the captain’s portal and administrator’s portal respectively.
**The number of L5 qualified volunteers submitted must meet the quota detailed in the entry information.

A-class divisions of the BSTF BUCS Championships Series are the qualification events for EUSA Games and Championship.

The 2020 European Universities Games (EUG) Taekwondo event will now take place July 14th – 27th 2021, in Belgrade, Serbia.* with the taekwondo divisions taking place over the July 23rd – 28th 2021.
