Seeding in the BSTF Championship Series
Athletes are seeded based on their ranking points in each division. Points won during the last and current academic year are included in your ranking.
For example, for the first competition of this academic year, your combined ranking points from the 3 competitions of last academic year are used for seeding the draw. By the third competition of this academic year, your combined ranking points from the 3 competitions of last academic year plus the first 2 competitions of the current academic year are used for seeding.
Ranking Points and Seeding
You can find your current ranking points for bracket seeding via Manage Your Account > MyRankings. Your National University Taekwondo Ranking(s) are updated after each competition. As the amount of ranking data increases, it becomes more likely that the highest performing athletes will meet each other in later stages of each competition.
Ranking points are awarded at each competition for every discipline + class + division you compete in. Ranking points from one discipline + class + division combination are not transferred1 or combined with other discipline/ class/ division.
The number of Ranking points you win at each event depends on both your final placement and the number of athletes who competed in the same discipline + class + division.
Your Ranking points, when compared with Rankings of other athletes entering that discipline + class + division at the next event, determine your bracket Seeding position for that discipline + class + division.
150% of your Ranking points are carried over if you enter an adjacent weight division in which you do not not hold a Ranking. 25% of your Ranking points are carried over if you enter the same weight division in a higher class. 12.5% of your Ranking points are carried over if you enter an adjacent weight division and a higher class in which you do not hold a Ranking.
Example Seed (Rank-n) Influence on Draw Placement
In the example above, 7 of the athletes who have entered hold an overall ranking place for this division (R = 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 11, 25) plus one unranked athlete. Their seeds determine their place in the draw (1st – 8th).
Example Final Bracket Draw
The bracket positions (1st – 8th) have been determined by each athletes’ relative ranking. The 1st and 2nd place seeded athletes will not meet until the final.
