Eligibility

The Challenge Cup event includes separate WT rules and ITF rules sparring, both with a dual tournament format*.

The Challenge Cup sparring tournament welcomes student athlete entries from all university clubs nationwide. Unlike other BSTF tournaments the Challenge Cup is also open to Alumni athletes (& university staff members) who are current members of your university club with one bracket of each of discipline – WT rules (PM) and ITF rules (PM) – also open to Alumni!

*A dual tournament format means that two separate brackets are contested on the same day, one after the other. Essentially this allows players to travel to a single event but compete in two tournaments, guaranteeing all athletes at least two matches. The dual tournaments’ brackets have different weight boundaries (e.g., Olympic vs World Championship weights) to allow for a wider range of potential opponents.

The two WT rules tournaments will be run one after the other, one designated WT rules AM and the other WT rules PM. Likewise, the two ITF rules tournaments will be run one after the other, one designated ITF rules AM and the other ITF rules PM.

Athletes may enter any one AM tournament and any one PM tournament. For example, an athlete may enter both ITF rules tournaments AM & PM, or may enter a WT rules tournament in the morning (AM) and an ITF rules tournament in the afternoon (PM).
